Privacy Policy

BACKGROUND:

The complete policy appears below, and nothing in this summary replaces it. However, most visitors are looking for answers to four straightforward questions, so we have addressed them first.

  1. We use two tracking tools, explained in full in section 8: Microsoft Clarity, which helps us understand how visitors interact with our pages, and a Google Ads tag, which tells us when an advertisement results in a booking. Neither tool operates on the pre-examination assessment page. We do not use social media widgets, and we do not sell or share your information for anyone else’s marketing.
  2. Your card information never passes through this website. Payments are processed by Stripe, meaning we do not see or store your card number.
  3. Our communications do not reveal what they concern. Booking-related emails and text messages are intentionally kept neutral.
  4. Your examination result belongs to you. We will not disclose it to anyone without your written consent, except in the single circumstance explained in section 9, which we prefer to make clear rather than conceal.
Who We Are:

This website is owned and operated by Instytut Badań Wariograficznych Adam Rangotis, a sole-trader business registered in Poland and operating under the trading name Lie Detector Test UK. Our registered business address is Twarda 18, 00-026 Warszawa, Poland.

We act as the data controller for the personal information covered by this policy. If you have questions about this policy, wish to exercise any of the rights described in section 11, or want to object to something we are doing, contact us at [email protected] or call our free helpline on 0800 861 1058.

What We Collect, and When:

We only request information where there is a specific reason to do so. There are four occasions when you actively provide us with information and one occasion where certain information is recorded without you being asked.

  1. When you enquire. Our contact form requests your name, a message, and either your email address or telephone number so that we can respond — only one of these contact methods is required, not both. You can also specify which method you would prefer us to use.
  2. When you book. The booking form requests your name, email address, telephone number, postcode or town, the type of examination you want, your preferred date or time, and, if you choose to provide it, the reason for the test. We also retain the exact wording of the agreement you accepted and the date on which you accepted it.
  3. When you complete the pre-examination assessment. This is the most detailed and sensitive form on the website. It is addressed separately in section 4.
  4. When you leave a review. If you submit a review through our review form, we retain the content you provide and the name you enter. Reviews submitted through Trustpilot are published by Trustpilot rather than by us; we display copies of those reviews on our website.
  5. Without asking: we record a one-way fingerprint of your IP address, your browser’s user-agent information, and the page from which you arrived, together with a form submission. Your IP address is hashed using a secret stored on the server, and the original address is not retained and cannot be reconstructed. This is used to prevent repeated submissions from the same source and to identify multiple submissions made by the same person.

Health Information:

The pre-examination assessment asks whether the person being examined has a medical condition, uses prescribed medication, has been diagnosed with a mental-health condition, or takes antipsychotic medication. Under the UK GDPR, this is classified as special category data and is therefore handled differently from other information.

  1. Why we ask. Certain medical conditions can prevent a polygraph examination from taking place, and in some circumstances we may require written confirmation from a GP before proceeding. Collecting this information in advance helps prevent someone from travelling to an appointment that cannot go ahead.
  2. Our lawful basis is your explicit consent, provided when you submit the assessment, together with the performance of our contract with you. You can withdraw your consent at any time, although doing so may mean we cannot carry out the examination.
  3. Who sees it. The information is accessible to the examiner carrying out your examination and to staff responsible for administering bookings. It is not disclosed to anyone else and is never used for marketing.
  4. How it reaches us. The information is stored on this website when you submit the assessment. The internal notification email informing our team that an assessment has been received intentionally contains none of your answers — it only includes the booking reference and a link. This is because ordinary email is not considered suitable for transmitting medical information.
Signatures:

The pre-examination assessment requires you to sign each of six agreements. You can either draw your signature or enter your full name; both methods are accepted. Whichever method you choose is stored together with the precise wording of the clauses you accepted and the date on which you accepted them.

We intentionally retain the wording alongside your signature. This means that if a clause is changed in the future, our records will still show exactly which version you agreed to.

Payment:

The fee for the pre-examination assessment is processed through Stripe, a payment provider used by millions of businesses and regulated for this purpose.

  1. Your card number, expiry date, and security code are entered into Stripe’s payment form and transmitted directly to Stripe. They do not pass through our website, and we never see or store those details.
  2. We retain the information necessary for the receipt: the payment amount, currency, whether the payment was successful, and the transaction reference supplied by Stripe.
  3. Stripe’s script operates on pages containing the booking form and places its own cookies there for fraud detection. This is the only location on our website where a third party places a cookie. Stripe’s privacy policy is available at stripe.com/privacy.
  4. Stripe sends your payment receipt directly to you. The receipt identifies the company rather than the service.
Location:

The booking form is designed to reduce the need for you to manually enter a postcode. It is important to explain precisely how this works because the phrase “we use your location” can refer to several different processes.

  1. If you reach the website through a page dedicated to a particular town, the booking form begins with that town selected. This comes from the page you chose and is not a measurement of your physical location.
  2. If you select the “use my location” button, your browser first asks for permission and then provides the page with your coordinates. Those coordinates are compared against our office list within your own browser and are never transmitted to us or anyone else. Only the name of the nearest office is placed into the form. Nothing occurs unless you actively press the button.
  3. If the field remains empty, the network used by our hosting provider may provide the page with an approximate indication of the town associated with your connection, which may then be used to populate the field. This is only a suggestion that you can replace, it is not stored against you, and it will not overwrite information you have already entered.
  4. The postcode you actually submit is stored with your booking because it allows us to determine which office is closest to you.
  5. Every town page includes a map showing the offices located there. The map uses imagery from OpenStreetMap, a charity-run mapping project rather than an advertising company. Loading these map images tells OpenStreetMap your IP address and which area of the map you are viewing, just as visiting any website normally reveals your IP address to that website. The map places no cookies and does not identify you. It only loads if you scroll far enough down the page to reach it — if you do not reach the map, no request is made. The map does not know your location and does not display it; it displays the locations of our offices.
Cookies and Tracking:

This policy changed on 31 August 2026, when a Google Ads tag was added alongside Microsoft Clarity. It remains shorter than many website cookie policies because we use only two tracking tools rather than numerous services, and we explain openly what each one does.

  1. Microsoft Clarity, introduced on 30 August 2026. It records how visitors interact with pages — including clicks, scrolling, and points where visitors pause — so that we can identify areas of the booking process that may be confusing instead of relying on assumptions. By default, it masks information entered into text fields. It never operates on the pre-examination assessment page, regardless of the settings, because that page may contain medical information. Microsoft’s privacy information for Clarity is available at clarity.microsoft.com.
  2. A Google Ads tag, introduced on 31 August 2026. It informs us when a booking deposit has been paid after a visitor reached the website through a Google advertisement, allowing us to understand which advertising is effective. It does not track you across other websites and is not used to serve advertisements to you elsewhere. It records only that a booking was completed and paid for, without collecting more detailed booking information. It also never operates on the pre-examination assessment page. Google’s advertising privacy information is available at policies.google.com/technologies/ads.
  3. We do not use social media buttons or embedded widgets that report your visit to an advertising company.
  4. The map on a town page, described in section 7, is separate from these tracking tools. It loads only when you scroll to it and does not place cookies.
  5. Visiting this website may place cookies from Microsoft Clarity and the Google Ads tag described above. Neither is placed on the pre-examination assessment page.
  6. Stripe also places cookies on pages containing the booking form, as explained in section 6. If you do not open the booking form, these cookies are not placed.
  7. The booking form remembers a town you have entered so that moving between pages does not remove it. This information is stored within your own browser and is cleared when you close the browser.
  8. WordPress places a session cookie when someone signs in to administer the website. This applies to us, not to visitors.
Who We Share It With:

We do not sell personal information and do not provide it to others for their marketing purposes. Your information is shared only with the following five categories of recipient.

  1. The examiner who carries out your examination.
  2. Our internal booking administration system, which we operate to arrange examinations and communicate with you about them.
  3. Stripe, for processing payments as described in section 6.
  4. Our insurers and professional advisers, where this is genuinely required for insurance matters, legal advice, or resolving a dispute.
  5. The police or another appropriate authority in one specific situation: where the results indicate deception connected with allegations of sexual abuse or domestic violence. We prefer to make this exception clear here rather than have anyone discover it later.
How Long We Keep It:
  1. Personal information is retained only for as long as necessary and never for more than six years.
  2. Test data is handled differently and remains under your control. If you state on the initial consent form that you want your test data deleted once our work is complete, then after the report has been produced we delete everything except the polygraph results report. We retain that report for one year in accordance with the terms of our American Polygraph Association membership.
  3. If you do not request deletion, video recordings, voice recordings, and charts are automatically deleted 24 hours after the report has been produced.
  4. If you state on the consent form that the video and voice recording should be retained as evidence for a court, tribunal, or another legal purpose, we keep them for no longer than one year. You must inform your examiner during the pre-examination interview; otherwise, the recordings will be deleted within 24 hours.
  5. We may retain information for longer where this is legally required or necessary to protect someone’s vital interests.
Your Rights:

Under data protection legislation, you have the following rights. Some of these rights involve conditions and exceptions that cannot be fully explained in a single sentence, and the Information Commissioner’s Office provides more detailed guidance on each.

  1. To know what personal information we hold about you and receive a copy of it. The first copy is provided free of charge.
  2. To have incorrect information corrected and incomplete information completed.
  3. To request deletion of your information where the applicable circumstances give you that right.
  4. To ask us to stop using your information while a dispute or question concerning it is being resolved.
  5. To object to our use of your information, including its use for direct marketing. If you object to marketing, we will stop using your information for that purpose without exception.
  6. To receive your information in a portable, machine-readable format where we process it on the basis of your consent.
  7. To withdraw your consent at any time. This does not make any processing carried out before the withdrawal unlawful.
  8. To lodge a complaint with the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk. We would prefer you to raise the matter with us first, although you are not required to do so.
Changes To This Policy:

We may revise this policy by publishing an updated version on this page. The date shown at the top indicates when the policy was most recently changed. If an amendment materially changes how we use information you have already provided, we will notify you rather than expect you to discover the change yourself.
